Emil Guillermo/Linceblog:Tim Lincecum says he draws inspiration from his Filipino heritage.

On Friday night, the dangle was on.

The dangle?

That’s the spot where Tim Lincecum reaches back with his right hand to get leverage for his delivery of the ball to the plate.

And by his own admission, “today felt better than most.”

Lincecum dazzled the sold out SF Giants crowd with a “Timmy Day” performance (6 innings, 3-hits, No runs, 3 walks, 8 strikeouts, ERA 2.00).

He stopped the Marlins’ slugger Giancarlo Stanton cold,  striking him out twice; the most critical one being a changeup in the 5th that ended a bases-loaded rally.

Lincecum seemed to punctuate the second Stanton strike out with a little extra English on his fist pump.

“I was pretty excited about it,” Lincecum said to me  in the clubhouse. “It was a pretty emotional setting.”

Pitching with a lead also helped, thanks to a Casey McGhee grand-slam in the 2nd inning. Two more runs  came in the 5th and 7th  but the Giants had enough to stop the Marlins on this night, 6-0.

It was also another Filipino Heritage Night, and fans who bought the special ticket received a bobble-head that commemorated Lincecum’s second career no-hitter last year.

Later,  I asked Lincecum if he drew any inspiration from  these heritage nights.

“Yes, definitely,” Lincecum answered me. “I think there’s always something to be said about where you come from, and obviously, my mom is full Filipino, so that goes into it without saying. I wasn’t really focused on that today. I was focused on the task at hand…But (fans) got a cool bobble-head, and it’s on a good night.”

Emil Guillermo: Mayweather changes mind on rematch with Pacquiao in Showtime interview, says, “We fight 100 times, I’ma win 100 times, Manny Pacquiao is just not a better fighter than me.” See clip of new interview.

Floyd Mayweather is taking back the offer of a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, saying earlier statements to ESPN were true, but he’s since changed his mind.

Mayweather’s new stance was revealed in an interview with Showtime to be cablecasted this weekend.

Mayweather calls Pacquiao a “coward” and said if Pacquaio was hurt he didn’t show it in the ring.

“His right hand was fast, and he was throwing them both (left and right) strong and fast,” Mayweather said to Showtime.

Mayweather said Pacquiao’s embarrassed. “He’s a beaten fighter,” Mayweather said of the Filipino champ. “Come on this is ridiculous…I won…We fight 100 times, I’ma win 100 times. Manny Pacquiao is, he’s not a better fighter than me.”

Pacquiao still faces scrutiny over his disclosure of his shoulder injury. AP is reporting Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Bob Bennett confirmed Pacquaio filled out the form himself and understood the questions.

“It’s not just the fact he didn’t fill out the question completely, it was that he wasn’t honest and they didn’t tell us a month ago when he had the shoulder injury,” said Bennett to AP.

Pacquaio could be out 9-12 months recuperating from his injury. But he may be encumbered by legal issues resulting from the failed injury disclosure.

Mayweather may have decided it wasn’t worth toying with a rematch just yet.

Emil Guillermo: “Fresh off the Boat” renewed for sophomore year on ABC

The Asian American comedy, “Fresh off the Boat,” will be back for a second season on ABC, according to Deadline.com and others.

And now, I guess it will be  “success perms” for all.

The show attracted nearly six million viewers on average in the key 18-49 demographic, and was considered on the bubble.

While I like young Hudson Yang as Eddie, the winning story lines are anchored by the parents played by Constance Wu and Randall Park.

Wu especially was a bright light for the show, and by the end of the season she was the reason I’d tune in.

Funny Asian girl? Yeah, like comedian Ali Wong, a writer on last year’s show. Maybe she’ll be back too.

One of the “diverse” comedies on ABC’s plate, FOTB joins “Blackish,” for a second season. The Latino oriented “Cristela” was not renewed.

See my earlier take on the show here.

Emil Guillermo: NSA/Patriot Act phone data collection declared illegal. But real battle ahead in Congress by June deadline. Some want it ended. GOP wants it continued. Do we really want to opt-out of democracy?

Remember how a federal judge ruled in 2013 that the NSA collecting  all your phone data was legal?

Today a federal appellate court ruled that the NSA data collection activity was  ILLEGAL.

But it didn’t rule on the second part of the ACLU’s suit…on whether the NSA’s data collection was unconstitutional.

More fights ahead.

Especially with the June deadline looming to end or extend the data collection provision in the Patriot Act.

The Senate likes the data collection and has already defeated a bill to end it last November.

The House has a bill ready to kill the data collection, but Senate Republicans are trying to kill the bill.

Maybe we can just have the government spy on Republicans who wish to opt-out on certain democratic  freedoms.

But that’s where we are. The court’s ruling today really leaves it up to Congress to decide if bulk collection of phone data is enough to compromise your freedom in the national interest.
